Statements on SAP S/4HANA

What DSAG thinks about SAP S/4HANA

Walldorf, 03.02.2015 -

DSAG sheds light on the product in a variety of statements from different points of view:

About the product in general

Marco Lenck, Chairman of the German-speaking SAP User Group e.V. (DSAG):

“SAP S/4HANA represents the next stage in the evolution of the SAP Business Suite. It’s ideal for visionary companies and pioneers who gain a major competitive edge from innovative business processes. However, for the majority of companies, it is rather a future idea than reality. So for these companies, traditional projects that revolve around their ERP system are a higher priority.”

“SAP ties its innovations together in SAP S/4HANA to create a new product. So the new HANA database technology and new and improved applications come together in one product with easy access through a web browser.”

About the operating model

Gerhard Göttert, Board Member with special responsibility for Application Portfolio at the German-speaking SAP User Group e.V. (DSAG):

“SAP’s strategy of making their new SAP S/4HANA available to customers both on-premise and in the cloud, whether public or private, lets companies choose the operating model that makes the most sense for them. We expect SAP S/4HANA to have the same range of functions for all operating models. However if there are limitations, including in comparison to the previous SAP Business Suite, SAP must clearly communicate them.”

“By making SAP S/4HANA available for on-premise solutions, SAP proves that a digital transformation is still possible, and this is based on an operating model tested over decades and found to be reliable. DSAG has always called for reducing the complexity of the widely used SAP business solution in favor of flexible and simple applications.”

About the transition to the new ERP environment

“DSAG is happy that customers can essentially have a gradual transition from the current ERP environment to S4HANA. In this regard, we expect SAP to guide customers along the required steps of the transformation process. Here also, as in other areas, it is important that SAP clearly represents the added value that SAP S/4HANA brings to business.”

Freedom of choice for the database

“We are very interested to see what further developments are in store for SAP S/4HANA. In terms of specific requirements, we want SAP to maintain a real freedom of choice for customers when it comes to databases, among other things. Alternatives to SAP’s HANA database must remain possible with no restrictions on functionality or performance.”

About the price structure

Andreas Oczko, Board Member with special responsibility for Operations/Service & Support at the German-speaking SAP User Group e.V. (DSAG):

“At DSAG, we strongly believe that, beyond the database, customers should be able to access SAP S/4HANA with no additional license fees. Companies will take a close look at developments in this area and assess whether the product delivers enough added value.”

Further development of installed solutions

“SAP must not neglect the existing installed solutions that customers already use. In line with SAP’s maintenance promise through 2025, current SAP products require significantly more development, since customers regularly invest in software maintenance fees. So SAP should remain as committed to its current products as it is towards SAP S/4HANA.”
